Yesterday I completed an item on my “Bucket List”: attending an NBA basketball game, in Miami no less.
The game was played at the stadium, FTX Arena (formerly American Airlines Arena or AAA). It is actually a multi-purpose arena mainly used for basketball and concerts. It is located in downtown Miami, along Biscayne Bay. It can accommodate up to 22,000 people. From the stadium terrace you have a superb view of downtown Miami and the bay. Absolutely beautiful!
It was just a regular season game with no big stakes, but what an atmosphere and the stadium was not even full. I can’t imagine a sold-out end-of-season game. That must be sick!
A special mention for the house announcer who had us dying of laughter all evening. His score announcements were hilarious especially when the visitors scored…
Since we left we have attended different sporting events: baseball, soccer, football and hockey. Each sport has its own audience and atmosphere.
Basketball is very popular, mostly young adults and very multicultural.
The game was very close, from start to finish. With 32 seconds left in the game, it was tied 105 all. Needless to say, there was noise in the arena. Finally the Heats scored for the victory in the last 27 seconds and they then managed to keep the advantage.
What a wonderful evening!
