For this short trip to New York, we visited the must-sees: Times Square, Empire State, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Broadway. Nothing very original. This is an overview of what New York has to offer.

A more cultural next stay, because we did not visit any museums, is to come…

Our itinerary

Day 1: Quebec New Jersey

Day 2: Time Square, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Ground Zero

Day 3: Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Broadway

Day 4: Empire State building and return to Quebec

Our favorites

Sunset over Manhattan

The most beautiful panoramic views of Manhattan are in New Jersey. We chose to go see the sunset on the Hudson River promenade in Jersey City. We arrived when the sun was still high and we waited for night to fall. We were able to appreciate the changes in light during the evening. The reflection of the rays of the setting sun on the buildings was magical. Then the illumination of the city in the middle of the night was splendid.

Broadway musical

Seeing a Broadway show has always been a wish of ours. We made it happen and we were not disappointed. We had booked before leaving for the musical The Jersey Boys at the New World Stages theater in New York's legendary entertainment district. The show was fabulous. For our performance, it was the understudy who played the lead role of Frankie Valli. He was excellent. What a voice!

Our accommodation

We opted for a hotel in New Jersey for price reasons, the Comfort Suites Newark - Harrison (1348 McCarter Highway, Newark, NJ 07104, United States)

Close to a commuter train station (15 minutes walk), we had a 20 minute train ride to get directly to New York Penn Station.

Day 1

We left home early because the road was long. We arrived in New Jersey in the late afternoon, just in time to see the sunset over the magnificent city of New York. We went to admire the panorama from the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway .

Day 2

During this beautiful day in New York, we went to Times Square during the day and in the evening, outside the Empire State Building, on the Brooklyn Bridge, in the Wall Street district, at Ground Zero. We were able to appreciate the beauty of New York architecture.

For our travel, we opted for the Big Bus (hop-on hop-off). This system allows you to discover New York on board a double-decker bus with an open roof. You get on and off at the stops that suit you, at your own pace. An audio guide is also available to give more information during the bus ride. Several packages are available depending on the length of your stay. It is certainly more expensive than using the subway, but you discover the city better and it is still very flexible.

Day 3

Given the short time we had for our stay, we had to make choices. We opted for a morning cruise in the bay rather than a visit to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and its immigration museum. The cruise had the advantage of allowing us to discover very beautiful points of view of the city, the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and Ellis Island.

In the afternoon, we went for a walk in Central Park before attending a musical in the evening in the famous entertainment district, Broadway.

Day 4

Empire State Building

Last day of our short stay in New York. In the morning we visited the most famous skyscraper in New York, the Empire State Building before heading back home.

See you soon...
