Traveling is also a family affair. This trip to Greece was a mother-daughter trip. A gift that we gave each other and that will remain in our memories forever. The itinerary was made according to our interests: Greek history and mythology, good food and the sea. We wanted to go to an island in the Cyclades, but we didn't want an island overloaded with tourists. So we chose Sifnos because it is less frequented than the more famous islands like Santorini or Mykonos.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Paris Athens

Day 4 : Athens Delphi

Day 6 : Visit to Nafplio

Day 7 : Visit to d'Olympia

Day 8 : Visit to Epidaurus

Day 9 : Back to Athens an go to Sifnos

Day 10,11 et 12 : Sifnos

Day 13 : Sifnos Athènes

Day 14 : Athens Paris

Our favorites

Delphi

Archaeological Museum of Delphi (site web)

Delphi is located about 2.5 hours northeast of Athens. It is a small tourist village located on the southern slope of Mount Parnassus, with a breathtaking view of the valley and the sea. The main tourist attraction is obviously the archaeological site of the Panhellenic sanctuary where the oracle of Apollo spoke.

In ancient Greek times, this place was considered the "navel of the world". Today it is a very popular tourist spot. The site is majestic. The view of the surrounding mountains is spectacular.

Epidaurus

Ancient theater

Epidaurus is a small town in the north-east of the Peloponnese, world-famous for its ancient theatre, certainly the most beautiful and best preserved in Greece. The view from the top of the stands is magnificent. The acoustics are incredible.

You can also visit an archaeological site near the theatre.

Gastronomy

We loved the famous Greek cuisine. Everywhere we went, we ate so well. The menus are varied and give pride of place to fresh local produce and seafood.

We became addicted to Tzatziki which always accompanied each of our meals.

In terms of drinks, Ouzo (anise-based alcoholic drink) is one of the essentials.

To accompany the meals, we should not forget the local wines (resin or not) which are also delicious and very affordable.

In short, in Greece, the pleasures of the table are part of the trip.

Sifnos

Sifnos is one of the islands of the Cyclades archipelago. It is located only a few hours from Athens. Less frequented than Mykonos or Santorini, it is mainly Greek tourists who come to spend a few days there to relax. There is not a very intense "night life". We go there for the calm, the beauty of the landscapes, the picturesque side of the small villages and the beaches.

Travel

Plane

For this trip, we left from Paris, flight of about 3 hours.

Metro and walk

In Athens we traveled by metro and we walk. In our opinion, this is the best way to visit a city.

The journey from the airport to the hotel in the city center is very easy by metro. It is convenient, fast and cheap.

Car

During our stay, we rented two cars. The first for 6 days for our trips on the continent. We had booked it in a car rental agency, Capital Rent a car, in Athens found on the internet before our departure. We had impeccable service. They came to pick us up at our hotel at the start and they picked up the car at the port of Piraeus on our return. Nothing to complain about.

Then in Sifnos, we rented a second car for one day only. We had no reservation and we settled for THE car that was left the day we decided to go around the island.

Boat

To get to Sifnos, we took the boat from the port of Piraeus in Athens. There are several companies that shuttle us. It took us about 3 hours for the crossing.

Accomodation

For this trip we had booked our accommodations before our departure with the exception of the last night in Athens which we booked on site. We were not disappointed. Each of our hotels had its charm and advantages.

Athens:Cecil Hotel (Adresse: 39, Athinas, Athens, 10554, Grèce)

Very well located, even if the reception is not very inviting, the room is comfortable, clean and we could see the Acropolis from our window.

Delphi Hotel Athina (Adresse: Vasileos Pavlou & Freiderikis 55, Delfoi, 33054, Grèce)

This is a very small hotel right in the "city center" of Delphi. The room is small but clean and not far from the archaeological site of Delphi.

Xiropidago : Sunset Hotel (Adresse: Main Street, Xiropigado, Xiropigado, 22001, Grèce)

Very nice hotel on the seafront. Just cross the street to go swimming. We had a beautiful view of the sea from our room.

Sifnos : Afroditi Hotel (Adresse: Kamares, Kamares, 84003, Grèce)

Afroditi Hotel is a very nice haven of peace, a little away from the town of Kamares and only 50 meters from the beach. The welcome was excellent and we loved our few days spent there. We had a room with a view of the mountains.

See you soon !
