After Athens, we headed to the small town of Delphi, which is about 2.5 hours drive northwest of the capital. We chose to sleep there rather than make a round trip in the day, because we wanted to have time to visit the magnificent archaeological site of Delphi.

Day 4

We leave our hotel, the Cecil Hotel, in Athens early in the morning. The car rental company has sent a driver to take us to the agency where we complete the paperwork and pick up our car.

On the advice of the rental company, we choose to take the highway to Delphi. But half of the journey is still on small country roads. On the way we have to stop to let a flock of sheep pass.

A few kilometers before arriving in Delphi, we pass through the small town of Arachova which according to the shops on the side of the road is a winter sports resort. This is quite surreal, because the day we passed it was 40°.

We check into our hotel Hotel Athina, in the center of Delphi and then enjoy the day walking around the village and down to the beach in the bay below.

Day 5

No rush today. We have reserved our day to visit the archaeological site of Delphi and then go to the Peloponnese near Nafplio, to Xiropidago exactly.

Aarcheological site

Even though it was scorching hot, the site was spectacular. We loved it.

Oddly enough, this place is extremely touristy, but it wasn't the crowd we were expecting. There weren't that many visitors, which allowed us to visit at our own pace and enjoy the tranquility of this majestic and historic place.

Museum

After visiting the archaeological site, a quick trip to the museum is a must. The museum is not very big, especially after seeing the one in Athens, it is incomparable. But at least there is air conditioning!

Go to Xiropidago

Then, destination Peloponnese and the beach. We arrive at our hotel, the Sunset Hotel , at the end of the day, but before sunset. So we were able to take a dip in the sea. After a 4-hour drive, it's nice.

Here we are, settled for 4 days in a room with a sea view...

To be continued...
